Your business name as the SMS sender
On the Pro plan, your review request SMS can show your business name, like "KilaMktg", instead of a number. Customers know who it's from before they open it.
How it works
Since 1 July 2026, every SMS sender name in Australia has to be on ACMA's SMS Sender ID Register. A name that isn't registered shows as "Unverified", which puts people off. So we register yours for you, through Twilio, our SMS provider, and only switch to it once ACMA approves it.
Until then, and on the Starter plan, your SMS come from the KilaReviews number and start with your business name ("Kila Marketing: Hi Sam, …"). Nothing stops while you wait.
There's no extra charge for registering it.
What you'll need
- The name you'd like: 2 to 11 characters. Letters, numbers and spaces (and & + - _), with at least one letter. It can't start or end with a space, include "Unverified", or be made only of general words like "Info", "Alert" or "Service".
- Why it's yours: it must match your registered business name or trading name, a trademark, or your domain name. A shortened version or initials are fine, like "KilaMktg" or "KM" for Kila Marketing.
- Your ABN and legal name. We look the ABN up on the Australian Business Register (ABN Lookup) as you type, to check the name matches.
- An authorised contact: a named person, usually an owner or director, with their role, email and mobile. ACMA emails them to confirm the request with myID, the government's Digital ID app. It can't be approved until they do, so check they have myID or can set it up.
- Roughly how many SMS you send a month from that location. A guess is fine.
Requesting it
- Go to Settings > Messages and find SMS sender name. Owners can request it; each location has its own.
- Choose Request your sender name, fill in the form and tick the box authorising KilaReviews and Twilio to register it on your behalf.
- We submit it to Twilio, usually within one business day.
How long it takes
Usually a few business days. You can see where it's up to in Settings > Messages:
- Requested: we're checking it and submitting it to Twilio.
- With Twilio: Twilio checks it, which usually takes a few business days.
- With ACMA: ACMA emails your authorised contact to confirm with myID.
- Approved: your SMS use the name from then on. We email every owner.
- Rejected: we email every owner the reason. Choose Fix and resubmit: your earlier answers are filled in, so you only change what's needed.
Once it's approved
- People can't reply to a name, so instead of "Reply STOP to opt out", each SMS ends with an opt-out link. Anyone who uses it isn't sent review requests again.
- If Twilio ever reports a problem with your name, for example that it showed as unverified, we switch that location back to the KilaReviews number straight away and resend any SMS that didn't arrive. We email you, sort it out with Twilio, and switch your name back on.
- If you move from Pro to Starter, SMS go back to the KilaReviews number. Your registration stays, so the name returns if you upgrade again.
Your details
To register the name, we give Twilio, the mobile networks and ACMA your ABN, legal name, the sender name and why it's yours, your website, the authorised contact's details, and your estimated volume. They use them only to check and record the registration. See our privacy policy.
